Ladies 1sts Match Report division IV

Weston v Corinthians – Saturday 1st December 2007

Weston Ladies 1sts had another very disappointing result on Saturday.  They just couldn’t get the ball in the back of the net losing 1 0.  Corinthians scored a goal half way through the first half to secure their win.  Weston kept the majority of the possession throughout the game and moved the ball around well but unfortunately did not convert any chances they were afforded.  The luck of the day was not on their side.  Jo Shannon, the Weston goal keeper had some cracking saves to keep Corinthians at a mere 1 goal lead.  Maeve O’Connor had great composure distributing the ball excellently out of defence finding the midfield who kept Corinthians on their toes.  Abbey Scott, a new player to the team this year showed passion and fight in her attempts on goal but it just wasn’t meant to be.  Frances Carroll ran rings around the opposition up front and was very unlucky not have added to her super goal last week in the Irish Junior Cup.

Weston v Genesis 17th November 2007

Weston 1sts had a tough match on Saturday against a very strong side of Genesis.  They worked very hard together but unfortunately had no luck on the day and got a very disappointing result, losing 2 1.  After about 15 minutes they conceded a penalty flick by the ball accidently hitting off the back of a Weston stick on the Weston goal line and Genesis took their opportunity well and flicked the ball into the bottom left hand corner.  Weston kept their composure and Catherine Walsh led the defence in keeping the Genesis side out the circle.  Weston continued to maintain good possession of the ball.  The Weston goalie, Annmarie Jarvis contributed spectacularly to the game in saving a number of great strikes from the opposition.  A few minutes before the half time whistle, however, a controversial shot on goal was awarded leaving Weston a little hard done by and 2 nil down at half time.  Weston came back on side full of spirit and with tremendous skill and movement up front, the Genesis defence were left for dust by Aoife Murray and Frances Carroll who meticulously moved the ball up the pitch between them and another super goal from Aoife Murray who is on top form this season.  Weston Ladies are in the Irish Junior Cup next Saturday, 24th November in Esker against Clontarf at 2.15pm.  This is the first time ever that Weston Ladies have been in the Irish Junior Cup and all support would be greatly welcome.

Weston v Newbridge 20th October 2007

Weston 1sts had a very disappointing result against Newbridge on the shale on Saturday losing 1 0.  Weston started with tremendous fight and passion and were by far the better side keeping the majority of the possession.  They didn’t however convert any of their numerous shots on goal.  In the first half they worked hard to get six or seven corners but unfortunately luck was just not on their side.  Maeve O’Connor and Catherine Walsh defended very well and kept them well away from Weston’s goal.  It was 0 0 at half time and Weston felt it would have been criminal to walk away with a draw.  It was not meant to be.  Newbridge ran on the break, had one shot on goal, scored and left the Weston side devasted.  The scoreline certainly did not reflect the great performance given by Weston.  There was some great play up front from Emma Gunn, and Frances Carroll who connected great with the midfield throughout the game.  Weston will look forward to meeting Newbridge at home and giving them a fair run for their money. They will, however, have to meet them before that again in the first round of the Leinster Cup, a challenge they will relish!

Weston V's Bray 6th October 2007

Weston Ladies 1st VI got off to a disappointing start last week losing 2 - 1 against Bray, however they made up for it in style this week after defeating the strong opposition of  Naas.  They had a slow start and allowed Naas to go on the break and score the first goal of the match, the last for them but not for Weston though, who picked up the pace immediately and about 10 minutes from half time the first of the Weston goals was in the back of the net.  A shot on goal was saved and a rebound shot by Mairead D’Arcy soared into the top left hand corner.  At half time, Weston were very determined to go back on side and continue their fight for victory.  A free from just outside the circle connected with Emma Ryan who solidly slapped the ball into the goal for a 2 – 1 lead.  The battle continued, the team played very strong together and 15 minutes into the half, Aoife Murray made a smashing skillful run and lashed the ball into the goal giving the Keeper no chance whatsoever.  Weston deserved their 3 – 1 victory after demonstrating sheer determination and tremendous team work.
