Tomorrow, it will be a surprise if Monkstown
do not get the point they need against Weston at Rathdown
to gain the other promotion place from the Second Division. Here, though, there are loose ends to be
tied up at the bottom with Weston, Kilkenny (at home to Clontarf)
and Trinity (away to Carlow) involved in the last series struggle for survival.
Evening Press
-------------------------------
Replacing them are Carlow and either Monkstown
or Eastern Health, depending on tomorrow's results. One point is enough to give Carlow the
Championship. One point against Weston
will give Monkstown promotion after slipping up at Suttonians last week and Eastern Health can force a
play-off if they beat Skerries and Monkstown flop again.

have joined Leinster Div. 2 Champions Carlow, as
challengers next season while Weston and Trinity go down.

WESTON'S ALL-WEATHER WAIT COULD BE OVER.
The long wait for an all-weather Hockey pitch in Lucan
could be over this week when the Minister for Sport announces the latest
share-out of lottery funding.
This follows almost 12 years of lobbying by the local
club Weston, playing in the Lucan area for the last 50 years. They've already collected £32000 and with a
grant of £30000 can start work almost immediately. The new pitch will be located beside the
Lucan Harriers track at Esker and will be available to the pupils of 5 primary
schools locally. These include
All have been forced to hire pitches and transport to
play their matches over the past few years.
Weston at the moment has 80 players, a quarter of them under 18. The Senior
Women's team operate in the Middle 'B' section of Leinster
League and finished mid-table this season, despite lacking a home pitch. The Men were promoted to senior
level for the first time in the
history of the club last season and although they failed to hold their place
this season, will be better prepared next time-especially if they get a proper
pitch to train on.
In recent years the club has used pitches at Templeogue, Coolmine and Cabra. Hopes are
high that they can at last return home.

The Season opened with Weston 1 drawn in Group 2
alongside Glenanne, Marillac
& Aer Lingus. We drew with Marillac
(0 - 0) and lost to Aer Lingus
(0 - 3) and Glenanne (0 - 9).
Irish Senior Cup
----------------------
The team made its debut in this competition this year and
were drawn away to Portadown. The match was played in Newry and,
unfortunately, we lost (0 - 4) to a very good side.
---------------------------
We were drawn at home to Portrane
and after playing very well we were eventually beaten (2 - 4). The goals were scored by Shane O'Hare and
Mick Baldwin.
League
-----------
After gaining promotion from Div 3 the team played its
first match in Div 2 at home to St. James Gate and were beaten (1 - 2) with the
'Gate' getting the winner right at the end of the match. John Kelly was the scorer of our very first
goal in Div 2. At the end of the first
half of the Season we had Won 2, Drawn 2 and Lost 5. In the second half of the Season the team
again Lost 5, Drew 3 and Won 1. The
team finished joint bottom of the Div 2 with TCD and both teams were relegated
to Div 3.

After a walk-over in the first Round, Weston were drawn
away to TRR 8 and won the match (2 - 1) with Brian Burke and Dick Heywood-Jones
getting the goals. In the third round
the team were drawn at home to RCSI who were unable to field a team which meant
that we were into the fourth round against Corinthians 5 who, unfortunately,
beat us (4 - 1). John Smith Scored our
only goal.
League
-----------
The 'Thirds' did not have the best of luck this Season
but in all fairness to Padraic and his team they
battled right to the end of the Season.
Unfortunately, they finished last in their division and together with
Pembroke Wanderers have been relegated to Division 11 (Minor 'C').

In this competition we were drawn at home to Avoca to
whom we lost (0 - 4). This was an
exceptionally good Avoca side who certainly would not
have looked out of place playing in Divisions higher than 'Junior' and 'Minor'.
