Extracts from Newsletter Xmas 1988 :-
Ladies :-
At the time of going to print the Ladies 1st Team were
top of their Division, an exciting fact that was printed in the Evening Press
on Friday, November 25th.
They have not lost any Match this season nor have they
conceded any goals. They are through to
the
The 2nd Team are improving as the season continues. The 1st Team appreciate sincerely that the
2nd's willingly donate players to them when needed, often at great cost to the
strength of their own team.
Men :-
The 1987/88 season went down on the books as Weston's
best season this decade. With 2 out 3
teams going up a Division this season we have had very mixed fortunes. The 1st and 3rd Teams have justified their promotions
but the 2nd Team are struggling.
Alec Birnie has led a
revolutionary crusade to bring players up from the lower teams up to the 1st
Team for a trial (Paddy Loughnane and Sean
Duke). This heretofore was taboo in
Weston. The Policy has proved very
successful. The 3rd Team are growing in
stature game by game under the great leadership of Ned McGregor.
