Lorraine gained two valuable Middle League 'A' points on Saturday last when they defeated close challengers YMCA 2 surprisingly easily by three goals to one. With Pembroke Wanderers 2 also losing ground, somewhat unexpectedly, against Weston.

Lorraine now lead this division with nine points from five matches with Pembroke a point behind and YMCA 2, Dublin University 2 and Weston 1 each on five points all having played the same number of matches.

Pembroke although they had to play for most of the game with only ten men, seemed to be in control when they led Weston 2-0 with ten minutes left.

Then McGivern broke through to reduce the arrears and with time running out goalkeeper Les Dixon miskicked a shot by Sheridan and Birnie rushed in to score the equaliser.

Pembroke lost Des Foot with an injured knee after only five minutes play but they took the lead in the 15th minute when Lee finished off a move on the right-wing and they increased their lead in the second half when Lee again netted from a free on the edge of the circle.

In the Middle League, Division 'A', Weston 1 v Dublin University 2 played at Weston, Leixlip. J. Black opened the scoring from a cross by S. Walshe. Dublin University equalised and soon were 3 goals up which they led at half-time. On the restart, J. Black scored for Weston from a short corner and B. Burke got a third from another short corner. With time running out , B. Burke taking a pass from K. Duke equalised to leave the score 4 goals all.

TRR 2 and Dublin University 2 duly followed Pembroke Wanderers 2 and Lorraine into the semi-finals of the Leinster Section of the Irish Junior Cup last Saturday but both had to fight hard to do so.

Weston led twice before Rovers pulled away in the closing stages to win by four goals to two.

The winners were a poor side in the first half but a switch which put Bewley and McBride back into their normal positions at inside-right and inside-left, respectively, improved their attack a great deal after the interval. Barron from a short corner, McBride, West and Webb were their scorers.

The Intermediate Cup progressed to the final stage when Corinthians 3 defeated Cremore 2 (2-1) and St. Brendans 2 scored a good 4-2 win over Weston 2. St. Brendans had to resist a determined comeback by the opposition at Grangegorman. Weston who had been led 3-1 in the second-half narrowed the gap and St. Brendans fourth came in the dying moments.

Each side scored once in the first half, Reynolds opening St. Brendans account and Eiffe equalising. Conroy (2) and Reynolds got the other goals for the winners who were well served by the Ryan Brothers, Michael at left-half and Chris at left-full as well as inside-right Kieran.
